Abhishek Sharma Smashes Second-Fastest T20I Century for India

Date:

Mumbai, India – Abhishek Sharma delivered a record-breaking performance in the fifth and final T20I against England at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. The left-handed batter unleashed a stunning display of power hitting, reaching his century in just 37 balls, making it the second-fastest T20I hundred for India.

Abhishek made full use of the powerplay overs, launching an aggressive assault on England’s bowlers. His blistering knock left the English team shell-shocked as he surpassed several key milestones. The record for the fastest T20I century by an Indian still belongs to Rohit Sharma, who scored a ton off 35 balls against Sri Lanka in 2017.

A New Benchmark for Indian Batting

Abhishek Sharma’s innings of 135 off 54 balls also set a new record for the highest T20I score by an Indian batter, surpassing Shubman Gill’s 126-run effort against New Zealand in 2023. His explosive performance included several powerful hits, dismantling England’s bowling attack with ease. He was eventually dismissed by Adil Rashid, but by then, he had ensured India posted a formidable total of 247/9 in 20 overs.

Record-Breaking Achievements

  • Second-fastest T20I century for India: 37 balls (Rohit Sharma holds the record with a 35-ball ton).
  • Highest individual T20I score for India: 135 runs (previous record: Shubman Gill – 126 runs).
  • Second-fastest T20I fifty by an Indian: 16 balls (KL Rahul previously held the record with 18 balls against Scotland).
  • Fierce battle against pace: Scored 60 runs off 32 balls against Jofra Archer in the series at a strike rate of 187.40.

A Knock to Remember

Earlier, Sanju Samson departed for just 16 runs in the second over, but Abhishek Sharma took command and launched a relentless attack. His fearless batting against express pacers Jofra Archer and Mark Wood stood out as the highlight of the match.

This record-breaking innings cements Abhishek Sharma’s place as one of India’s most exciting young talents, and his performance will be remembered as one of the most electrifying knocks in Indian T20I history.
