Formula One bars drivers from making political statements without prior approval

By India Today Web Desk: After FIFA, Formula One has put restrictions on its athletes from making political statements during their events across the world. From now on, Formula One drivers will need prior written permission from the sport’s governing body to make ‘political statements’ from next season following an update of the International Sporting Code.

The 2023 version of the code, which applies to all series sanctioned by the International Automobile Federation (FIA), was published on the governing body’s website with changes highlighted.

Earlier prior to the FIFA World Cup, Gianni Infantino, the president of FIFA had written a mail to the footballing nations in the world to focus on the World Cup instead of the political issues at Qatar. FIFA also threatened to suspend players and associations, if they were to put any sort of signage on their kit that supported the LGBTQ+ movements.
