MS Dhoni Inducted into ICC Hall of Fame: “An Honour I Will Cherish Forever”

Date:

Indian cricket legend Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been officially inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame, marking yet another historic milestone in his illustrious career. The announcement came during a grand ceremony titled “A Day with the Legends”, hosted at the iconic Abbey Road Studios in London.

Dhoni, the only captain in history to have won all three ICC white-ball trophies—the T20 World Cup (2007), 50-over World Cup (2011), and Champions Trophy (2013)—was one of seven global icons inducted into the Hall of Fame this year. The panel comprised ICC Hall of Famers, senior ICC executives, and select media members who voted on the 2025 inductees.

Speaking after receiving the honour, Dhoni expressed deep gratitude:

“It is an honour to be named in the ICC Hall of Fame, which recognises the contributions of cricketers across generations and from all over the world. To have your name remembered alongside such all-time greats is a wonderful feeling. It is something that I will cherish forever.”

  • Hashim Amla (South Africa)
  • Matthew Hayden (Australia)
  • Graeme Smith (South Africa)
  • Daniel Vettori (New Zealand)
  • Sana Mir (Pakistan)
  • Sarah Taylor (England)

Dhoni now becomes the 11th Indian cricketer to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame, following the footsteps of legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Kapil Dev, and Rahul Dravid.

Dhoni’s Glorious Numbers

A master tactician and calm finisher, Dhoni led India to unprecedented heights, including an 18-month reign at the top of the Test rankings and that unforgettable six in the 2011 World Cup final.

ICC Chairman Jay Shah praised the contributions of the inductees, stating:

“Through the ICC Hall of Fame, we pay tribute to the finest players the game has seen, individuals whose remarkable careers have shaped cricket’s legacy and inspired generations.”

Launched in 2009, the ICC Hall of Fame celebrates players five years after their last international appearance, honouring those who have made an enduring impact on the sport.
