Ahmedabad, June 3, 2025 – The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are just one step away from scripting history as they gear up to face the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the IPL 2025 final on Tuesday. However, uncertainty looms over the availability of their explosive middle-order batter, Tim David, with skipper Rajat Patidar admitting he has “no idea” about the Australian’s fitness.
David, a key finisher for RCB, has missed the last two matches due to a hamstring injury. His absence could be a major blow for the franchise as they seek their maiden IPL title. When asked about David’s status during the pre-final press conference, Patidar remained unclear.
“Till now, I have no idea about Tim David. The doctors are handling it, and we will get to know this evening,” the RCB captain said.
Salt’s Availability in Doubt Too
Adding to RCB’s concerns, reports from ESPNCricinfo suggest that opener Phil Salt may also miss the final due to personal reasons. The English wicketkeeper-batter, who has been instrumental at the top of the order, was absent from RCB’s training session on Monday. Sources indicate that Salt is awaiting the birth of his first child and may not be in Ahmedabad for the match.
Neither Patidar nor head coach Andy Flower addressed Salt’s situation directly, likely to keep their plans under wraps ahead of the high-stakes clash.
Patidar’s Leadership Test Against Experienced Iyer
This will be Patidar’s biggest test as captain, having taken over the reins just before the season. On the other hand, PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer brings a wealth of experience, having led the Kolkata Knight Riders to the title last year. Iyer also holds the unique distinction of being the only captain in IPL history to guide three different franchises—Delhi Capitals, KKR, and now PBKS—to finals.
Reflecting on his leadership journey, Patidar said, “Till now, I have enjoyed it a lot. It’s a great opportunity to learn from the great leaders and players in our team. Their ideas have helped me grow in this role.”
Battle of Equals in Ahmedabad
Both RCB and PBKS have been dominant this season, setting the stage for a thrilling finale. While RCB’s batting has been their strength, PBKS boast a well-rounded unit with firepower in both batting and bowling.
Will RCB finally break their title jinx, or will Shreyas Iyer add another IPL trophy to his cabinet? The answer will unfold tonight at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
