In a stunning display of fast bowling, Hayley Silver-Holmes produced a devastating three-wicket over against her former team to power the Hobart Hurricanes to a commanding six-wicket victory over the Sydney Sixers in the WBBL on Thursday night.
Returning to North Sydney Oval where she spent three seasons, Silver-Holmes turned the match on its head with a phenomenal spell, finishing with career-best figures of 3-18 and guiding the Hurricanes to their second consecutive win.
The Over That Broke the Sixers
With the Sixers looking to build a competitive total, the match was decisively swung in the 13th over, bowled by Silver-Holmes. In a breathtaking sequence, the quick removed three of the world’s best batters:
- Ash Gardner: The Sixers’ skipper was caught after playing a false shot.
- Amelia Kerr: The New Zealand all-rounder was clean bowled, putting Silver-Holmes on a hat-trick.
- Alyssa Healy: After the hat-trick ball was survived, the Australian captain had her stumps rattled in her first game of the tournament.
This triple-strike triggered a dramatic middle-order collapse, restricting the Sixers to 9-152 from their 20 overs despite a promising start from Healy (37) and Ellyse Perry (33).
Hurricanes Chase with Ease
In reply, the Hurricanes made light work of the target. Opener Lizelle Lee led the charge with a dominant half-century, reaching 50 off just 31 balls to ensure the chase was never in doubt. The Hurricanes reached the target with 19 balls to spare, cementing their unbeaten start to the season.
The victory was set up by Silver-Holmes’ heroics, a performance that showcased her skill and provided a brutal reminder of her talents to her former franchise. The Sixers, meanwhile, have little time to recover before their next local derby against the Sydney Thunder.
