Delhi speedster Harshit Rana has finally spoken out about his much-deserved maiden call-up to the Indian ODI team. The 22-year-old bowler wasn’t shy about giving credit where it’s due, attributing his national selection “above everyone else” to former cricketer Gautam Gambhir.
Rana’s impressive performance with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) this IPL season, where he bagged 19 wickets and played a key role in their championship win, did not go unnoticed. Interestingly, Gambhir was the mentor for KKR during Rana’s stellar run.
Rana, in an emotional statement, acknowledged his struggles in the past, being overlooked despite his talent during his junior years. He highlighted his unwavering determination, stating, “Delhi mein dil tooth sakta hai par humne kabhi hausla nahi haraa (Delhi can break your heart but I never lost hope).” (Times of India)
Rana’s exceptional bowling during the IPL finally earned him the recognition he deserved. He credits Gambhir for not just his skills development but also for a crucial shift in mindset. “I had the skills but Gautam bhai changed my mindset in KKR,” Rana said. (Times of India)
With his talent and the backing of Gambhir’s guidance, Harshit Rana is poised to make a mark on the international stage. Indian cricket fans will be watching closely to see if he can replicate his IPL success for the national team.
